Communication Management System

SYSTEM OVERVIEW

GAI-Tronics Corporation designed a Communication Management System for the DOW Chemical Company located in Midland, Michigan. The project required an upgrade of the existing GAI-Tronics Page/Party® System comprising 124 stations in four communication zones, and provision of additional features and system monitoring.

SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY

SmartSeries® equipment monitors the communication system and reports information to a central location for evaluation to maximise the efficiency of maintenance efforts. System cable integrity is tested during an ongoing polling process.

An Access Panel enunciates system faults to the operator; this information is also downloaded to a printer. The operator may select to page to any combination of the four communication zones, and to override any field initiated pages. This feature allows the operator to override operational communications for priority or emergency messages.

Additional system features include the ability to identify the SmartSeries® station from which a page is initiated, and use of GAI-Tronics' SmartVolume™ technology to provide automatic adjustment of speaker output levels with respect to the ambient noise levels.

This illustration shows the basic system layout for the DOW project. The GAI-Tronics SmartSeries® Control Unit interfaces to each of the four zones. Initially the zones will contain both standard Page/Party® and SmartSeries® equipment; eventually, all stations will be SmartSeries® stations.
