Requirements
- A machine (PC) with a network connection to the VoIP unit
- A TFTP server
- GAI-Tronics VoIP Firmware package (see below)
Configure the TFTP Server
GAI-Tronics has performed successful firmware upgrades in the past using TFTP32, which can be found here:
http://tftpd32.jounin.net
Once the TFTP server has been installed it must be configured to have a root directory. Most GUI-based TFTP servers have a file path that can be set in a straightforward manner. Choose (or create) a directory on the host machine and configure the TFTP server to use this as the root directory.
File Configuration
- Extract the enclosed files into a folder called "GAI".
- Move the GAI folder into the root directory of your TFTP server
- Open Update.nfo using a text editor (such as Notepad).
- Change the SERVER field to match the IP address of the TFTP server host machine.
- Ensure that the ROOTFS, USERFS and KERNEL fields are correct relative to the root directory of your TFTP server. For example, if your TFTP root directory is defined as “C:/TFTPD32” and your firmware resides within “C:/TFTPD32/GAI” then the file path for each field should be of the form “/GAI/ incaip.root.jffs2”. Moving the folder (“GAI”) containing the firmware directly into the TFTP root directory should mean that these fields do not need to be changed.
- Ensure that the USERNAME and PASSWORD fields match the username and password for the VoIP unit that you wish to upload the firmware to. By default these are “user” and “password” respectively.
- IMPORTANT – ensure that there are no trailing spaces at the end of each field, and ensure that there is at least one extra blank line after the last field.
- Save and close Update.nfo

VoIP Unit Configuration
- Login to the VoIP unit via the web interface. To do this, type the IP address of the VoIP unit into the URL bar of a web browser on your host machine.
- You will be prompted with a login dialog box – enter the login details for the VoIP unit and click “OK”.
- Browse to the "Unit Settings" section via the link on the left of the page. Click the "Edit" button.
- Change the SERVER field to match the IP address of the host machine for the TFTP server.
- Change the FILE field to match the location of Update.nfo relative to the to the root directory of your TFTP server (i.e. "GAI/update.nfo").
- Change the INTERVAL field to 0 unless you wish the VoIP unit to continually update the firmware at a regular interval.
- Click "Apply and Save"
- Click "Update Now"
